Carpet marbeling ?

I noticed it while I was vacuuming and pointed it out to her but looked so much worse after I cleaned. What causes this?

Pile shading or pooling. If you look these terms up you'll find many theories. Nothing to do with cleaning though.

Careful about is how you work on deep nap carpet though. The lines in the carpet look like they're from a Grandi-Groomer, and if one is used too aggressively causes what's known as cornrowing. Those are your responsibility.
